The ISH Helps Kids Grow at Junipero Serra High School

The ISH is proud to have just completed its first project, facilitating the creation of a school garden at Junipero Serra High School in San Diego.

Working with a champion teacher and interested students, the ISH jump-started the planning, design and building stages of the garden. ISH also donated time, labor, raised beds, containers, soil, paint and 50 pumpkins.

ISH started the project with a pair of guest lessons on the evolution of running for a humanities class, and followed it with a series of lessons on murals and community space in an art class. Students then drafted a mural, painted containers and joined us on multiple occasions to clean, prep and plant the garden.

By the time the garden was complete, self-selected students organized a garden club and started to paint the mural while interested teachers began to seek ways to enhance their instruction with and in the garden.

ISH is honored to have begun its mission at Junipero Serra High School and to have worked with such committed teachers and excited students. We look forward for more to come!
